Conference Play Resumes at Robert Morris

Flames Make First-Ever Visit to Moon Township

10/8/2021 1:01:00 PM

UIC will look to get back in the win column Saturday at Robert Morris.  After their four-match winning streak was snapped at Creighton last weekend, the Flames will try to gain ground in the conference standings on Milwaukee, who sits just one point ahead of them in second place, and league-leading Cleveland State.

"Coach O'Keefe is a heck of a coach," Sean Phillips said of RMU's leader.  "It should come as no surprise to anyone who's been watching Robert Morris that he's doing a great job turning the program around.  They have two very high quality wins in the Horizon League, having defeated last year's regular season champion in Northern Kentucky, and beating Wright State on the road, where it is very difficult to get any kind of result.  I fully anticipate having to be at our best to come away with three points."

Despite a four-goal setback to Creighton, UIC's defense continues to be near the top of the Horizon League statistical tables.  The team has allowed the second-fewest goals in the conference, while Andres Vasquez has the highest save percentage in the league, along with the most shutouts (five).

The Flames have spread the wealth on the attacking end.  Eight different players have scored at least one goal, and nine have logged an assist.  Combined, the team is averaging 17.5 shots per game to rank fifth in the country.

Robert Morris snapped a five-match losing streak with a 2-1 win over Wright State last weekend.  Six different players have scored a goal, but Gal Ben Dayan is the only Colonial with more than one goal on the season (2).  Three keepers have split the 10 appearances to date.  Mike Zolnierczyk leads the pack with a 1.75 goals-against average.  Robert Morris is averaging just 6.2 shots per game, last in the Horizon League.

Saturday's match will start at 11:00 a.m. Central.  There will not be a video stream.
