Flames Post Impressive Results at House of Champions

Men Hold Off Ball State; Women Top All Conference Teams

11/18/2021 9:12:00 PM

UIC finished action at the House of Champions invitational at IUPUI Saturday, holding on to impressive team finishes while showing off their depth in several events.

The men finished third, holding off Ball State by three points.  Only local D-II powerhouse UIndy and the hosts finished ahead of the Flames.  On the women's side, UIC placed fourth.  They trailed Illinois, Ball State, and UIndy, and finished almost 90 points ahead of league rival Milwaukee.

Cydney Liebenberg showed once again to be one of the region's top divers.  She added a 3-meter title to the 1-meter win that she achieved Friday.  The 100 free was a big event for UIC, with Flames men and women well-represented in the final heats.  In other events, including the 200 fly, few if any Horizon League swimmers finished ahead of the Flames' top finishers.  UIC will look to replicate that success when they return to the IUPUI Natatorium for the conference championships in February.

The Flames will take an extended training break until early January.  They will return to competition with their first home meet of the season, a two-day triple dual against Cleveland State and IUPUI.
