UIC will look to string consecutive wins together for the first time this season when they return to Credit Union 1 Arena to face Omaha Monday night.
The Flames set season highs in scoring, shooting percentage, and made 3-pointers in their 68-64 win over Valparaiso last Tuesday.Â
Kristian Young's 11 assists – the most by any Horizon League player this season – fueled the first double-double by a Flame as she was one of four players to score in double figures. The Flames showed poise down the stretch, rallying from six points down and closing the game on a 9-4 run.
UIC's best 3-point shooting night in over three years elevated the team to third in the conference in long distance accuracy.Â
Keona Schenck ranks third in the individual Horizon League standings in 3-point shooting. She is also the conference's leader, and in the national top 10, in minutes played. Schenck and Young both played the full 40 minutes against Valpo, as the Flames played a season low three players off the bench.
Omaha will be the second straight winless opponent to visit Chicago. They are 0-4 on the season. Two of their losses came to Big 12 competition, including #12 Iowa State in their opener. They suffered a 14-point loss at Weber State last Sunday. Mariah Murdie has been the most productive Maverick. She leads the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists.
This is the first-ever meeting between the programs. It is the fourth time that UIC will play a team from Nebraska (0-1 against Creighton, 0-1 against Nebraska, 1-0 against Tulsa), and the fifth different current Summit League member to appear on the Flames' schedule (joining Western Illinois, South Dakota, Denver, and Oral Roberts).
Tipoff will be at 6:30 Monday. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
