Flames Fall To Omaha Mavericks, 70-58

Omaha’s hot shooting keeps Flames on the backburner

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team fell to the Omaha Mavericks, 70-58, on Monday night inside Credit Union 1 Arena. The Mavericks shot 47% from the field behind the career night of their center, Elena Pilakouta. The Flames were led in scoring by Jaida McCloud, who scored 17 points, 8 of which came from the foul line. Kristian Young joined McCloud in double figures, scoring 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with a team-high five assists and three steals.

The Mavericks rebounding was the early difference maker in the first quarter, as the Flames were out rebounded 13 to 6. The Flames roared back into the game in the second quarter of play after shooting 54.5% from the field, scoring 21 points in the quarter and holding the Mavericks to 8 points. The Flames led the Mavericks heading into halftime, 31-27.

The second half saw the Mavericks putting up 15 points and taking the lead heading into the final quarter, 52-46. Kristen Young led the Flames with 5 points in the third quarter.

The physical game came down to a few key plays, including a corner three from Keona Schenck with three minutes left to go to pull the Flames within 4 points.

Lindsey Rogers nailed a 3-pointer to force Omaha to take a timeout and stop any momentum, but Omaha was able to hold on and secure the victory over UIC, 70-58.

UIC will travel to Rochester, Mich. to face Oakland on Thursday, Dec. 2. The game is slated to tip-off at Athletics Center O'Rena.
