Volleyball Closes Out Home Schedule This Weekend

UIC plays host to Oakland before facing Cleveland State on Senior Day

CHICAGO -- The UIC volleyball team closes out the home portion of its regular season schedule this weekend, playing host to a pair of Horizon League matches. The Flames will first take on Oakland on Friday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. before squaring off against Cleveland State on Sunday, Nov. 7. First serve against the Vikings is set for 2 p.m. and will be Senior Day as the Flames will honor Morgan Kull prior to the match.

Last Time Out
• The Flames split a pair of road matches last week, extending their season-long winning streak to five matches with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wright State before suffering a 3-1 loss at Northern Kentucky to round out the trip.
• Paola Santiago had her second consecutive match with 26 kills in the Flames' victory over the Raiders after collecting 26 in UIC's last home match. 

Santiago Repeats as #HLVB Player of the Week
• Paola Santiago was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Oct. 27, earning the award for the second week in a row.
• Santiago matched a season high with five aces in a win over the Jaguars while adding 15 kills and 16 digs for her eighth double-double of the year.
• The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native then recorded a career-high 26 kills in the win over the Mastodons, the third-most kills by a Horizon League player this year.
• The Flames have had three total Player of the Week awards this year as Martina Delucchi eanred the honors after being named to the All-Tournament Team of the UIC Invitational
• Delucchi led the team in kills in all three matches, finishing with a team-high 49 kills. Her 49 kills over the three matches were more than twice as many as the next closest Flame. For the weekend, Delucchi recorded 4.45 kills per set while matching the team lead with five aces.

Serve It Up
• The Flames have excelled all year from the service line, ranking 14th nationally with 166 aces on the year. As a team, UIC averages 1.80 per set, second-best in the conference and 26th nationally.
• Against IUPUI, the Flames recorded a season-high 13 aces, the most in a Horizon League match this year.
• Individually, Martina Delucchi ranks fourth in the Horizon League and 22nd nationally with a team-leading 37 aces this year.
• Delucchi has seven matches this year with two or more aces, including a career-high five aces in UIC's match against Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 24, and has at least one ace in all but three matches this year.

Swing Away
• As a team, the UIC offense ranks second in the Horizon League and 49th nationally with 13.54 kills per set.
• As a result of their high-performing offense, UIC ranks second in the conference with 12.63 assists per set this year. The Flames' 1,246 assists this year are 20th most in the country.
• UIC has been averaging 36.67 attacks per set, second-most in the Horizon League and 53rd nationally.
