Women's Basketball Falls At Home To Saint Louis

The Flames Drop Their Saturday Afternoon Game To The Billikens

CHICAGO - The UIC Flames (2-7, 1-3 Horizon) lost their Saturday afternoon game to the Saint Louis Billikens (4-7), 75-47. The Flames battled throughout the game but struggled against the Billikens fast-paced offense. Jaida McCloud led the Flames in scoring with 15 points to go along with her six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Keona Schenck dazzled despite the loss, sinking four 3-pointers and shooting 57% from the field on the day.

In the first half, the Flames struggled defensively, allowing 14 points in the paint to Saint Louis. The Billikens forced seven turnovers in the half while turning the ball over three times. The Flames were outscored, 35-18 in the first half of play.

Ky Dempsey-Toney entered in the second quarter and gave UIC some extra inside presence against the Saint Louis forwards. Dempsey-Toney scored two points and grabbed three boards to keep the Billikens from scoring second-chance points. Kristian Young showed off some great passing ability in the first half as well, ending the half with four assists.

The Flames offense started to click in the third quarter, as the Flames put up 16 points on the quarter and shot 50% from the field. Schenck led the charge with a pair of 3-pointers, while McCloud scored a three of her own. In the fourth, UIC scored 13 points and held Saint Louis to only 14 points, their lowest scoring quarter.

UIC women's basketball will return to play on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Kansas State. This will be the non-conference finale and the last game before the holiday season.
