Flames To Finish Road Trip At Detroit Mercy

UIC Looks To Grab Their First Conference Win Against The 0-7 Titans

12/3/2021 4:18:00 PM

The UIC Flames (1-5, 0-3 Horizon) will face the winless Detroit Mercy Titans (0-7, 0-3 Horizon) Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m in Calihan Hall. The Flames are coming off a closely-competitive 67-59 loss to Oakland, while Detroit Mercy is coming off an 87-52 defeat to IUPUI.

In their last game out, Justice Gee, Jaida McCloud and Kristian Young all managed to score double-digit figures, with Gee tying her career-high of 12 points. McCloud managed 22 points on the game, with half of her points coming from the free-throw line. Despite the team's efforts in the second half, the Flames were unable to overcome a 17 point first-half deficit.

Detroit Mercy sits at the bottom of the Horizon League in offense, averaging 53.6 points per game while, on defense, the Titans allow 68 points per game. The Titans have struggled from the field all season, shooting 20% from 3-point land and 36% overall from the field.

Where Detroit Mercy has a clear advantage over the Flames is on the boards. The Titans average a respectable 34.6 boards per game, 3.3 more than the Flames. Rebounding has been an aspect of the game the Flames have been working to improve on the past week. UIC has been out rebounded 88-55 in the two previous games and 237-182 on the season.

This game sits as the 45th match-up between these two teams, with Detroit Mercy holding the 23-21 series edge over UIC. The last time these two teams faced off was Dec. 20, 2020. In that game, the Titans scored 43 total points in the second and third quarter to seal the 72-58 victory.

Tip-off will be at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 4. This game can be seen on ESPN +.
