CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (3-0, 3-0 HL) cruised to its third-straight win on Monday, taking down Horizon League newcomer Robert Morris (0-3, 0-3 HL) by a final tally of 3-1 (25-17, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15).
Paola Santiago (18 kills, 12 digs) and
Martina Delucchi (12 kills, 21 digs) paced the Flames, each recording a double-double in the victory.
Set One Highlights
- The Flames broke a 12-12 tie with a Paola Santiago ace, a kill from Morgan Kull and a pair of Robert Morris attack errors to take a 16-12 lead.
- The Colonials put down a kill before three more points for the Flames, 19-13.
- A pair of UIC attack errors would put Robert Morris within four, 21-17, but that was as close as it would come as the Flames sped off to a 25-17 set win, taking the last four points consecutively.
Set Two Highlights
- UIC jumped out to an early 10-6 lead, but a RMU kill and a Flames error brought the Colonials back within two, 10-8.
- UIC rattled off the next six points unanswered to double up on the visitors, 16-8. Santiago, Zahria Woodard and Becca Oldendorf all put down kills in the Flames' run.
- The Colonials got one by way of a UIC ball handling error before another four-straight points for the Flames, 20-9.
- RMU put down three-straight terminations, but the Flames immediately took them back, 23-13.
- A kill from Mikala Henderson and an Abigail Sunga service ace would end the set with a win for UIC, 25-14.
Set Three Highlights
- A 5-0 run for Robert Morris gave it an early lead, 5-3. A Santiago kill and a Martina Delucchi – Oldendorf block tied the match at five.
- UIC was protecting a two-point lead, 20-18, when a pair of RMU kills and a service error turned the tides in favor of the visitors, 21-20.
- Three more kills and a block allowed the Colonials to run away with the set, 25-20. Â Â
Set Four Highlights
- The Flames trailed by two, 9-7, when it fired off five-straight kills to turn the tables, 12-9.
- Robert Morris stopped the rally with a kill, but UIC took another three, 15-10.
- The Flames took five of the next seven to grow their lead, 20-12.
- A termination from Santiago finished out the set with a 25-15 win for UIC.
Facts & Figures
- Becca Oldendorf joined Paola Santiago and Martina Delucchi in double figures with 12 kills, hitting .500 (12k-0e-24a) on the day with zero errors. The freshman also tallied a game-high six blocks.
- Zahria Woodard totaled nine kills for the offense.
- Jaclyn Oblena donned the libero jersey and brought in 17 digs on defense.
- Morgan Kull paced the team with 53 assists. She also turned in five digs on defense.
- The Flames hit .340 (61k-11e-147a) on the day, while the Colonials hit .205 (50k-20e-146a) as a squad.
- UIC outblocked Robert Morris 7-3. It also tallied more assists, 59-49. The Flames also turned in eight service aces, compared to two for the opposition.
- UIC had the advantage in digs, 64-61.
