CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (4-2) will look to extend its four-match win streak this weekend as it continues its seven-match homestand, welcoming Toledo to Chicago on Friday, Feb. 26 at 12:30 p.m. CT before facing off with Illinois State on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at XS Tennis.
The Flames have won their last four matches, last picking up a 4-3 shorthanded win over North Dakota on Friday, Feb. 19. UIC had to fight back after dropping the doubles point, eventually falling in a 3-2 hole.
Lucie Prochazkova and
Ana Jover both finished with wins for UIC at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, to allow the Flames to run away with the 4-3 win.
UIC is 22-13 as a team in singles action this season, led by a 5-1 record from senior
Georgia Gulin.
Ana Jover comes in at 4-2 in singles play this year, followed by
Tuva Wallin at 3-1. In doubles, the Flames have split their matches against their opponents, owning a 7-7 record in doubles play as a team.
Toledo is 1-2 on the young season, most recently taking a 5-2 loss to fellow Horizon League member Youngstown State on Friday, Feb. 19. The Flames are 11-4 all-time against the Rockets, with a 5-1 record at home. UIC last saw Toledo on Feb. 29, 2020, when they grounded the Rockets with a 5-2 win.
Illinois State is 7-4 this season, winning their last five-straight matches. The Redbirds last took down Western Illinois on Wednesday, Feb. 24, when they shut out the Leathernecks 7-0. The all-time series is tied between the Flames and the Redbirds, 11-11, but UIC has the last win after outlasting the Redbirds, 4-3, last season at Illinois State.
Following this weekend's action, the Flames will face a busy stretch to finish out their homestand, welcoming Chicago State (March 2), Cardinal Stritch (March 4) and Roosevelt (March 5) to Chicago next week.
