Newcomers Power @UIC_WBB Against IUPUI

CHICAGO -- A trio of freshmen led the way for UIC offensively on Saturday afternoon, but the Flames (3-11, 1-9 HL) were unable to knock off the IUPUI (11-4, 9-3 HL) Jaguars at Credit Union 1 Arena, falling 74-64.

Jaida McCloud netted a game-high 16 points for the Flames, while classmate Lindsey Rogers knocked down a quartet of 3-pointers to tally 14 total points. Kristian Young was also in double figures with 10 points, adding a team-best five assists.

First Half Highlights
  • The Jaguars kicked things off with a pair of layups, before the Flames got on the board with a pair of free throws, 4-2. IUPUI scored the next six, which UIC replied to with a Kristian Young jumper and a Lindsey Rogers layup, 10-6.
  • The visitors buried a three, but the Flames got those points back with a three-point conversion from Jaida McCloud in the next possession, 13-9.
  • Another Jaguar three started a 6-0 run for IUPUI at the start of the second quarter, 19-9. Jealissa Presswood converted another three-point play for the Flames, and McCloud struck again with back-to-back buckets, 21-16.
  • IUPUI picked up seven-straight, until a Lindsey Rogers three put an end to the streak, 28-19. With just under two minutes remaining in the half, both teams put away a three, with Case taking credit for UIC's, 34-25. The first half ended with a free throw for the Jags and a late jumper from Young, 35-27.
Second Half Highlights
  • Early miscues for the Flames in the second half led to a 7-0 run for the visitors, 42-27, but a 9-0 stretch for UIC two minutes later would reduce the deficit to single digits, 44-38.
  • Rogers closed out the third period for the Flames with a pair of threes, 55-47.
  • Rogers started the fourth quarter with another trey, putting the Flames just three away, 55-52. The two teams traded scores, refusing to allow the other to gain any ground, until the Jags were able to put together six unanswered points in a 50-second span to push their lead back up to nine, 65-56.
  • McCloud and Tiana Jackson sank jumpers for the Flames, but a pair of Jaguar threes followed, 74-62. Keona Schenck recorded the game's last tally with just under 30 seconds remaining on the clock, 74-64.
