Flames Stifled by Panthers, 3-0

The two teams will close our a four-game series Sunday afternoon

CHICAGO – UIC offense was unable to gain any traction Saturday afternoon as the Flames dropped a 3-0 decision to Milwaukee in Game 3 of the four-game series.

The Flames' (3-6, 2-1HL) offense was held in check by the Milwaukee (1-9, 1-2HL) duo of Jack Mahoney and Matt McCarty, who combined to shutout the Flames and allow just six hits. The hits were scattered throughout the game, as the Flames were unable to get a runner to third Saturday.

The Panthers struck first, as a leadoff double to open the game came around to score and give the visitors a quick 1-0 lead. UIC looked to counter in the bottom half of the inning, as back-to-back singles by Bryan Rosario and Thomas Norton put runners on first and second with one away. Milwaukee worked out of the threat, inducing a ground ball double play to end the inning.

Single runs in the second and fourth were tacked on by the Panthers and another ground ball double play was turned by Milwaukee in the bottom of the fourth to put an end to a second one-out, two on situation for the Flames.

Ryan O'Reilly took the mound for the Flames, going seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out three and issuing zero walks. Fred Gosbeth came on in relief for the final two innings, allowing a pair of hits and striking out a trio of Panthers.

The fourth and final game of the series will start at 12:05 Sunday afternoon as UIC looks to claim the series victory.
