CHICAGO – The UIC softball team (22-14, 19-7 HL) completed its third series sweep of the season on Saturday, picking up a pair of wins over Cleveland State (9-27, 4-20 HL) to close out the four-game set. The Flames run-ruled the Vikings 12-0 (5) in game one before finishing off the series with a 4-2 win in the finale to remain a perfect 14-0 so far this season when playing at home.

Game One Highlights
- The Flames got on the board with five runs in the bottom of the second. Cassie Kaelber doubled through the left side and moved to third on a wild pitch. Jordyn Cebedo pinch hit and drew a walk, putting runners on the corners for Alannah Cran, who sent one through the left side to score Kaelber, 1-0. Another wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, and they both came in to score on single up the middle from Maica Ingles, 3-0. Kayla Wedl followed that up with her 10th home run of the season to put UIC up by five.
- UIC extended its lead with seven runs in the bottom of the third. Kaelber led things off with an infield single and she came all the way in to score on an error forced by Dee Dee Caskey, 6-0. Maddie Spinks was hit by a pitch, and she joined Caskey in a double steal to place two runners in scoring position for Cran, who sent one up the middle to score them both, 8-0. Cran took third on a wild pitch and scored on a grounder from Ingles, 9-0. The inning continued as Samantha Ferguson reached on a fielder's choice and Emma Crowley singled, which was followed by back-to-back doubles from McElligott and Kaelber, scoring three more runs, 12-0.
- The Vikings batted a two-out single in the top of the fifth, but the next batter popped up in foul territory to end the game early with a 12-0 win for the Flames.
Game One Facts & Figures
- Kaelber led at the plate for the Flames, going a perfect 3-for-3 in game one. Wedl, Ferguson, Crowley and Cran also all finished with mutli-hit performances, while Ingles and McElligott finished with one hit apiece. UIC had a hefty lead in hits overall, 13-4.
- Cran led the squad with three RBI in game one, while Kaelber and Wedl followed with two runs driven in apiece. Ingles and McElligott drove in one run each.
- Every Flame who started crossed the plate at least once, but Kaelber and Cran led the way with two runs each.
- Miranda Gomez pitched the duration to pick up her fifth win of the season. Gomez allowed just four hits and no runs in her 5.0 innings, striking out four and walking zero.
Game Two Highlights
- Cleveland State grabbed its first lead of the series in the top of the first, scoring two runs off two hits and a walk, 2-0.
- The Flames made their reply in the bottom of the third, as McElligott led off with a walk and Ingles singled to left. The pair pulled off the double steal, allowing them both to score on a single to right off the bat of Wedl and tie the game at two. Wedl stole second and moved to third on a grounder from Ferguson, and she crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Cran, putting the Flames in the lead, 3-2.
- UIC added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. Ingles drew a two-out walk which was followed by a triple from Wedl, scoring Ingles, 4-2.
- Cleveland State threatened the lead in the top of the sixth with a one-out double, but the Flames turned a double play on the next batter to end the threat.
- The Vikings were kept off the bags in the top of the seventh to close out a 4-2 win for the Flames.
Game Two Facts & Figures
- UIC had the edge in hits, 6-4. Wedl and Kaelber combined for four of UIC's six tabs, while Ingles and Cran picked up the remaining two.
- Wedl took credit for three of UIC's four RBIs in the finale, while Cran grabbed the remaining one RBI.
- Ingles scored half of UIC's runs in the game. Wedl and McElligott also scored once run apiece.
- Christina Toniolo pitched the complete game and earned her 11th win of the season. The freshman gave up two earned runs off four hits in 7.0 innings of work.
