CHICAGO – The red hot UIC women's tennis team (12-4, 4-0 HL) will look to extend its eight-match win streak this weekend as it hosts Horizon League foe Youngstown State (13-7, 6-0 HL). The Flames and Penguins will square off in a pair of matches on Saturday and Sunday at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts, with first serve set for 10 a.m. CT both days.
UIC took home a pair of dominating wins at IUPUI last weekend, shutting out the Jags 7-0 on Saturday (March 27) before finishing the series with a 6-1 win on Sunday (March 28). Juniors
Ana Jover and Marinna Hermanny de Figueiredo picked up a pair of 6-2 wins in doubles action, earning them the title of Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week.
Jover also continued her hot streak in singles action, extending her win streak to nine and improving to a team-best 12-2 this season.
Georgia Gulin follows closely with an 11-2 record in singles this season, winning her last six straight and eight of her last 10 overall. On the season, the Flames are 68-27 in singles matches.
In doubles, the Flames own a 26-13 advantage over their opponents, and Jover once again leads the way, owning a 10-3 record when playing with a partner. Freshman
Agnes Gustafsson is 9-5 when playing as part of a tandem, while
Tamara Malazonia boasts an 8-5 record in doubles action.
Youngstown State is on a win streak of their own, owning a 6-0 record since starting Horizon League play. The Penguins most recently picked up a pair of shutout wins over Oakland, defeating the Golden Grizzlies 7-0 on Saturday and Sunday last weekend.
The Flames own a 20-6 advantage all-time against the Penguins, but Youngstown State got the edge in the last meeting between the two teams, taking a 4-3 win over the Flames when the two teams last met on April 19, 2019.
