COLUMBIA, MO. – The UIC softball team (29-23) had its 2021 season draw to a close on Saturday afternoon following a 4-0 loss to Iowa State (33-22) at the Columbia Regional. The Flames close the book on another historic season that included the program's 10th Horizon League Championship and 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.

Game Highlights

• UIC collected singles from Samantha Ferguson and Tara McElligott in the bottom of the first, but the Flames were unable to push a runner across.
• Iowa State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third after a two-out, two-run home run.
• Ferguson collected her second hit of the game to leadoff the bottom of the fourth, but Iowa State was able to turn a double play and force a flyout to get out of the inning unharmed.
• Two singles, a wild pitch and a walk brought across two more runs for Iowa State in the top of the fifth, 4-0.
• McElligott doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a groundout left her stranded on second.

Facts & Figures  

• The Flames were outhit 7-4. Ferguson and McElligott combined for all four of UIC's tabs, collecting two apiece.
• Christina Toniolo got the start in the circle and took the loss, ending the season 12-8. Toniolo allowed four earned runs off seven hits in the season finale. Marley Hanlon pitched the final 1.0 inning and retired all three batters she faced.
