Flames fall 4-0 in NCAA First Round

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The UIC women's tennis team (19-6) finished out another historic season on Friday, falling 4-0 to No. 15 Ohio State (22-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes took the doubles point and clinched the first three completed singles matches to earn the win over the Flames.

Doubles Highlights
Nell Arendt and Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo paired up at No. 3 against the No. 80-ranked Luna Dormet and Irina Cantos Siemers and took a 6-2 loss. Lucie Prochazkova and Ana Jover came up short in the No. 2 match against Lisa Hofbauer and Lucia Marzal, 6-3, giving Ohio State the doubles point. The No. 1 match featuring UIC's Tamara Malazonia and Agnes Gustafsson and the No. 52-ranked Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen went unfinished.  

Singles Highlights
Jover fell at No. 4 to Marzal, 6-2, 6-3. Malazonia took on No. 18-ranked Cantos Siemers in the No. 1 match and took a 6-1, 6-3, loss. Arendt put up a fight in the first set of the No. 6 match against Madeline Atway but ultimately fell, 7-5. Atway won the second set over Arendt, 6-0, to clinch the win for the Buckeyes. Gustafsson battled in the No. 2 match against Boulais, taking set two 6-3 after a 6-1 loss in the first set, but the match ultimately went unfinished in the third set. Prochazkova's match at No. 3 with Hofbauer also went unfinished, as did Georgia Gulin's No. 5 match against Dormet.
