CHICAGO – UIC student-athletes once again set a new benchmark for success in the classroom as a school record 107 student-athletes earned Horizon League Spring 2021 Honor Roll distinction.
 
It is the second consecutive semester in which over 100 Flames earned the recognition, surpassing the previous record of 105 from the fall semester.
 
UIC's 300 student-athletes posted a cumulative 3.41 GPA in Spring 2021, the 13th-consectuive semester in which UIC has posted a department GPA of 3.0 or higher. Combined with the 3.45 GPA in Fall 2020, the 2020-21 department GPA of 3.43 is the best in school history.
 
The Flames' women's swimming and diving program led the way with 15 honorees while five programs (baseball, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving and men's track and field/cross country) all had 11 student-athletes named to the list.
 
UIC's softball and women's track and field/cross country programs had nine honorees each, and four student-athletes from the women's basketball, women's golf and women's tennis teams earned Honor Roll distinction. The women's volleyball and men's tennis programs had three student-athletes make the list and men's basketball had one to round out the Honor Roll group.
 
In all, 1,455 student-athletes achieved academic honor roll distinction for the spring of 2021 semester with all 12 member institutions and 19 Horizon League sponsored sports represented.
 
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
