CHICAGO – UIC men's basketball alum Jordan Blount helped capture a title for his home country of Ireland, as his team won the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries title with a 97-66 victory over Malta on Sunday (Aug. 15).

Playing on home soil, Blount led Team Ireland with a near triple-double performance in the championship game, finishing with 17 points, a game-high 15 rebounds and game-best nine assists. For the tournament, Blount averaged 14 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists over four games while shooting at a 55.6% clip. The Cork, Ireland native scored in double figures in 3-of-4 contests and added double-digit rebounding efforts in two games.

Following the completion of the tournament, Blount was named to the FIBA All-Star 5, a collection of the five best players from throughout the course of the tournament.

Blount opened Ireland's tournament run with a 20-point, 12-assist double-double in the team's win over Andora before adding eight points and seven rebounds against San Marino. The forward then dropped 11 points to go along with eighth rebounds and six assists against Gibralter before his near triple-double performance in the championship game.
Blount appeared in 90 games with 87 starts for the Flames from 2017-20. The point forward averaged 7.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game during his UIC tenure. Blount was a key contributor on the 2019-20 squad that reached the championship game of the Horizon League Tournament for the first time since 2004.
