A city rivalry will be rekindled at a full-capacity Flames Field when Northwestern visits UIC Monday night.
Each team is hungry for their first win of the season. Northwestern fell to Chicago State in their opener Thursday, and the Flames are coming off an opening night loss at Grand Canyon. Though
Alwin Seitz' goal sparked some late intensity against the Lopes,
Sean Phillips said that he wants to see his team display urgency from the beginning of the match.
Not only will the Flames try for their first win of the season and to start a winning streak against the Wildcats, they will look to get back on the positive side of the ledger on their home pitch. UIC won 22 straight at Flames Field before ending last season with losses to Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee. Admission is free, and the match is fully open to the public.
The teams have met 26 times over the years, including the last five seasons before each side played a conference-only slate in 2020. They have alternated wins in those five meetings, with the Wildcats becoming the third straight home team to claim victory in a 2-1 overtime win in 2019.
Seitz had two shots on goal against Grand Canyon, as did
Bukola Abdulwahab. "Bukky" had a team-high three shots altogether in his return from an injury that kept him out of the last eight matches of last season.Â
Josiah Ash also made his first appearance since being injured in 2019, bolstering UIC's front line with a 52-minute shift.
The match will start at 7 pm and can be seen on ESPN+.
