Flames Entertain Houston Baptist Monday Night

UIC Looks to Continue Momentum Following Comeback Against SLU

9/5/2021 3:37:00 PM

Please Note: Due to ongoing field repair efforts at Flames Field, Monday's match has been moved to Rockford, Ill.  Fan attendance is allowed, and admission is free.  More information is available here.

It may have been late, but UIC found its rhythm on offense Friday night.

When Houston Baptist visits on Monday, the Flames will look to pair an efficient offense with a playmaking defense in search of their first win of the season.

UIC had possession for 65% of the second half and overtime periods against St. Louis.  After a barrage of chances and shots, they completed a two-goal comeback in the 89th minute and held on for their second straight draw, moving their record to 0-1-2.

Houston Baptist will be just as hungry for a win when the teams face off in the outdoor stadium at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in Rockford.  After a season-opening win over St. Thomas, the Huskies have dropped their last two matches to Florida Atlantic and #9 SMU.

"Houston Baptist will no doubt be coming in looking for a fast start and trying to break us down," Phillips said.  "Our challenge individually and collectively will be to come out with high intensity for 90 minutes and to pay attention to details in all facets of the game."

The Huskies are paced by CJ Smith's three goals and Gianluca Natera's two assists.  Two keepers have split the minutes almost evenly and allowed four goals each, but Gustavo Otero's .636 save percentage is almost twice that of JP Becerra.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the programs, and the first home match in UIC history against a team from Texas.  Live stats will be available (see the blue box above), but due to the late change in venue, there will not be a live stream.
