@UIC_WBB Takes On Robert Morris To Close Road Trip

The Flames Face Robert Morris At Noon On Sunday

1/15/2022 10:46:00 AM

The UIC Flames (2-10, 1-6 Horizon) will close out their road trip against the Robert Morris Colonials (6-8, 4-5 Horizon), Sunday at noon CST. The Flames are coming off a 69-46 loss to Youngstown State, while RMU's most recent game resulted in a loss to IUPUI, 63-44, on Friday. This is the first time these two teams have faced off in the school's history

The Flames have struggled in the new year, sliding to 0-4 in the month of January. The team has struggled to rebound against Horizon League teams thus far, allowing teams to outrebound them by 13. UIC is looking to emphasize efforts on the boards against the Colonials, who rank at the bottom of the league in rebounds.

In their last game, the Flames were led in scoring by Kristian Young, who finished with ten points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Ky Dempsey-Toney has been a standout in the paint for the Flames this season, continuing the recruiting success out of New Jersey for UIC. The Freshman forward scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds, dished two assists, recorded two blocks and a steal against Youngstown State.

Jaida McCloud completed a personal milestone against Youngstown State Friday, scoring 194 points on the season, eclipsing her freshman season total of 192. The sophomore ranks sixth in the Horizon in average points, putting up 16.2 per contest.

Robert Morris is coming off a loss against one of the top mid-major teams in the nation: IUPUI. The Colonials were held to 34% shooting on the game, making only one of their 11 threes. RMU averages 53 points a game, the lowest scoring average in the conference this season. What makes them stand out is their defensive intensity. The Colonials hold teams to 58.5 points per game and force nearly 16 turnovers a game. The Flames will look to win the rebounding battle and limit turnovers to secure a victory.

Tip-off is at noon CST on Sunday, Jan. 16, at Moon Township, Pa.
