UIC women's basketball (2-12, 1-8 Horizon) will host the IUPUI Jaguars (11-5, 8-3 Horizon) for the second time this week in the regular-season series finale. In their last matchup on Friday, the Jaguars capitalized on their home-court advantage with an 82-44 win. The Flames will look to learn from their prior mistakes and use the loss as a learning tool to stop the hot-shooting Jaguars on Sunday.
In the last game, the Flames forced the Jaguars IUPUI into 29 turnovers, an impressive effort defensively. UIC looked gassed, however, after sprinting up and down the court on several possessions. The tiredness showed through in the rebounding numbers, as the Flames were outrebounded 47-17 on the game. The total of 17 rebounds is their lowest total on the season and could be attributed to fatigue. With a short turnaround, the Flames will look to come back fully rested ahead of Sunday's game.
IUPUI is one of the best mid-major teams in all of college basketball. Their shooting ability shined in the last game, shooting nearly 57% from the field and 40% from deep. The Jaguars lead the Horizon League in 3-point shooting percentage and overall shooting percentage. The Flames will look to maintain focus and keep a hand in the face of shooters at the perimeter to slow down the hot hand of IUPUI.
These two teams will face off for the last time of the regular season at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago on Sunday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
