@UIC_WBB Host Green Bay Saturday Afternoon

The Flames is back in action Saturday afternoon to face the Green Bay Phoenix

1/7/2022 9:43:00 AM

The UIC Flames (2-8, 1-4 Horizon) hosts one of the top defensive teams in the league in the Green Bay Phoenix (7-5, 3-3 Horizon). The two teams will face off for the first time this season at Credit Union 1 Arena.

In their last outing, the Flames fought hard against the No. 2 team in the Horizon League, the Milwaukee Panthers. UIC was only able to suit seven players, but despite the odds stacked against them, the Flames kept it close throughout. Ky Dempsey-Toney scored a career-high 15 points, while Jaida McCloud dominated in all facets, notching 13 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a block. Lindsey Rogers put up 14 points and seven boards in her first start of the season.

The Green Bay Phoenix are coming off a heartbreaker, falling 51-49 to IUPUI on a last-second buzzer-beater by IUPUI's Anna Mortag. The Phoenix were led in scoring by Cassie Schlitz with 13 points. The guard shot 50% from the field along with five rebounds. The biggest knock against the Phoenix in this game was their 3-point percentage. Green Bay went 5-21 from beyond the arc, shooting 23.8% on the day.

UIC will likely be running with only seven players again against Green Bay. The Flames will need to take advantage of Green Bay's less than stellar 3-point defense. The Flames have shooters on their team; if they can kick out of the post to find an open Keona Schenck or Rogers, the Flames give themselves a great shot to beat Milwaukee.

Tip-off for Saturday's game is Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. at Credit Union 1 Arena. This game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
