Flames Host Fighting Irish Tuesday Night

Notre Dame is Final Non-Conference Opponent

10/17/2022 3:03:00 PM

UIC will face Notre Dame in the Flames' final non-conference match of the season, at Flames Field Tuesday night.

Both squads are looking to snap winless streaks.  UIC has dropped its last two outings, while Notre Dame has lost its last three.  For the Flames, the match represents a chance to get back on the positive side of the ledger at home, where they dropped a decision to #21 Missouri State Saturday, but tasted victory in shutout fashion in their previous contest.

In the match against the Bears, Josh Torres scored in the early goings to put the Flames ahead.  They held that lead well into the second half before an onslaught in the attacking third turned the tide in the visitors' favor.  Paul Brauckmann had a breakout performance with four shots, including three on goal, to set season highs in each.

Torres' goal was his fourth of the season.  He is the team leader in that category.  Christian Crespo assisted, giving him four helpers on the season to rank second in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Notre Dame has faced top-11 opponents in its last two matches, and was shut out by both.  In their non-conference slate, they played two common opponents with UIC: DePaul, who earned a draw in South Bend, and Chicago State, who the Irish dispatched 4-0.  Paddy Burns is the squad's leader with four goals.  A trio of Irish share the team lead with three assists.

This is the fifth all-time meeting between the programs, and the first in Chicago.  Notre Dame won last season's encounter, 3-0 in South Bend, en route to an appearance in the College Cup.  They are the second straight, and third overall, 2021 NCAA tournament qualifier to appear on UIC's schedule.

The match will start at 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
