Flames Sweep Bruins for Fourth Consecutive Victory

UIC dominated from the opening serve en route to 3-0 win

CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team dominated from the opening serve Friday night to sweep Belmont, 3-0, for the team's fourth consecutive MVC victory.

UIC, who hit .343 as a team, was led offensively by Martina Delucchi's team-high 11 kills. Mikala Henderson had 10 and Becca Oldendorf hit .700 individually in the match with eight kills to just one error on 10 attacks. Sohila Wafeek dished out a double-double with 35 assists and a match-high 12 digs.

The Flames cruised throughout the entire match, never trailing at any point. The two teams were tied only three times throughout the course of the evening, 2-all in the first set, 3-all in the first set and 1-all in the second set.

UIC kept Belmont out of rhythm throughout the course of the match, as the Bruins hit .000 in the opening set, .185 in the second set and .200 in the third and final set. Meanwhile, the Flames hit above .300 in all three frames to easily collect the victory.

Ten different Flames recorded at least one kill in the match, with UIC able to get bench production out of Cleo Lorenzo, Kayanna Jones, Grace Zambrano and Ayat Amin offensively while Abigail Sunga and Colleen Hege chipped in along the back line of defense.

UIC has a quick turnaround, returning to the Flames Athletic Center at 3 p.m. on Saturday to take on fellow MVC newcomer Murray State.
