Flames Rout Scarlet Hawks in Lone Exhibition

Tre Anderson leads all scorers with 22 points in UIC debut

CHICAGO – The UIC men's basketball team cruised to a 90-52 victory over Illinois Tech Tuesday (Nov. 1) evening in the Flames' lone exhibition contest.
 
Tre Anderson, making his UIC debut, led all scorers with 22 points and filled out the stat sheet with six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Anderson was 1-of-4 Flames to reach double figures against the Scarlet Hawks, as freshman Cameron Fens scored 13, Jace Carter added 12 and Filip Skobalj dropped 11.
 
All 11 players saw action Tuesday evening, with 10 of the 11 scoring at least two points. All 10 players who scored also brough in at least two rebounds, led by Carter and Jaden Brownell with seven each.
 
The Flames dominated the glass, outrebounding Illinois Tech by a 47-28 margin, including a 15-4 edge in offensive rebounds. UIC excelled at sharing the ball, dishing out 21 assists on its 35 made field goals. The team also forced the Scarlet Hawks into 23 turnovers in the contest.
 
UIC scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. Brownell opened the scoring with a layup, Carter followed with a dunk and Anderson connected on the first of 10 3-pointers. The scoring spree helped the Flames jump out to a 43-12 lead and would cruise the rest of the way.
 
The exhibition contest allowed head coach Luke Yaklich to tinker with lineups, as 10 of the 11 players who played Tuesday played at least 13 minutes, while no player played more than 29.
 
UIC opens the regular season on Monday, Nov. 7, when the Flames play host to Trinity Christian. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Credit Union 1 Arena.
