Kaitlyn Montague earned Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team honors, and three Flames made the Honorable Mention squad, the conference announced today.
Montague has a cumulative 4.0 GPA in Industrial Engineering. She started 15 games, and played in all 17, this season. She was second on the team in shots, and led the Flames in shots on goal. She had one assist this year. Montague holds the program records for goals in a game, and assists in a game.
Grace Haines,
Makena Shaw, and
Megan Bowman were all Honorable Mention selections. Haines has a 4.0 GPA as an Urban Education major. She appeared in every match this year, and contributed defensively to eight shutouts. Shaw carries a 3.94 GPA and is majoring in Nursing. She started 16 of the 17 matches, and tallied one goal and one assist.
Bowman, who has a 3.74 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, became the program's all-time leading scorer this year. She finished the season with two goals and two assists, and was a critical part of the Flames' tactics as the second-leading field player in minutes played. Bowman was also an All-MVC First Team selection follfaowing the season.
The Flames have had at least one conference All-Academic selection in all nine years of the program's existence. Haines is a repeat honoree, having garnered First Team academic status last year.
Separately, all four Valley honorees, along with
Brielle Gomez, made the College Sport Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team. Gomez has a 3.92 GPA and is majoring in Kinesiology. She started every match this season, and was part of a back line that allowed three or fewer shots on goal in nine matches.
