Flames Head to the Big Apple for Tom Konchalski Classic

UIC squares off against Fordham, Stonehill and Holy Cross

CHICAGO -- The UIC men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season as the Flames head to the Bronx for the Tom Konchalski Classic, hosted by Fordham.

OPENING TIP
• The Flames will open the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19, taking on Fordham at 4 p.m. (CT). Following an off day Saturday, UIC will round out the tournament with games Monday (vs. Stonehill, 3 p.m. CT) and Tuesday (vs. Holy Cross, 3 p.m. CT).
• The Flames improved to 2-1 on the year with a 67-60 victory over Jacksonville State last time out. Jace Carter had a career-high 22 points while matching his career best with 10 rebounds to notch his first career double-double.
• The Flames have excelled at defending the rim this season, ranking first in the Missouri Valley and 21st nationally with 6.3 blocks per game. Cameron Fens' eight total blocks through two games are the most in the MVC and 27th nationally.

MATCHUP BREAKDOWN
• This weekend will mark the first time in program history the Flames will square off against the three other opponents in the tournament field.
• Fordham is 2-1 on the year with wins over Dartmouth and New Hampshire while falling to Arkansas
• Stonehill is 1-3 on the year with a victory over Army West Point and losses to UConn, Quinnipiac and Providence.
• Holy Cross is 1-2 on the year, having defeated Dean while dropping contests to Siena and Creighton.

TURNOVER MACHINE
• Through three games, the Flames have forced their opponents to commit 21.33 turnovers per game.
• UIC is first in the Missouri valley and 16th nationally in the category.
• Against Loyola, the Flames forced the Ramblers to turn the ball over 25 times. Christian Jones was heavily involved with five steals, while Tre Anderson had four.

MAKING THE FREEBIES
• Tre Anderson took advantage of the free throw line in UIC's 67-60 victory over Jacksonville State.
• Of Anderson's 20 points, 15 came from the free throw line. Anderson would finish 15-for-20 from the charity stripe.
• The graduate student became the first Flame to make 15 or more free throws in a game since Kelsey Barlow vs. Wagner (17-of-19) on Nov. 27, 2013.
• Anderson's 15 made free throws are tied for the fifth most in UIC single-game history.
• 54.1% (26-of-48) of Anderson's points this year have been at the free throw line, with his 26 total makes ranking as the third most nationally. Anderson's 35 attempts are the second most in the country.

CAREER NIGHT FOR CARTER
• Jace Carter had a career night against Jacksonville State, finishing with a career-high 22 points while matching his career best with 10 rebounds to collect his first collegiate double-double.
• Through the first three games of the season, Carter is averaging a team-best 17.3 points per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and bringing in seven rebounds per game.
