Softball Walks Off 1-0 Win Over Army In Extras

The Flames Secured The 1-0 Win Over Army In The Eighth Inning

TAMPA, Fla. - The UIC softball team (3-12) grabbed the 1-0 victory over Army (3-10) in eight innings. The Flames managed a rally in the eighth after Grace Fleming was placed on second base due to the extra-innings rules. Larisa Villa led off with a single to advance Fleming to third, bringing up Isabelle Garcia. Garcia smoked a single into right field, scoring the game-winning run. The Flames will travel back to Chicago and prepare to face Horizon League opponent Purdue Fort Wayne for a weekend series on Mar. 11-12.

UIC and Army were at a stalemate throughout the majority of the first seven innings. Villa was hot with the bat, giving the Flames two of their four hits on the game. Allanah Cran and Garcia accounted for the other two hits.

Alyssa McIntosh had an incredible outing on the mound for UIC. She claimed her first win of the season in an eight-inning, complete game shut out against Army. McIntosh allowed four hits, no walks, and struck out five batters today.

The Flames will start up Horizon League play against Purdue Fort Wayne this next weekend. UIC will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on the Mastodons, starting on Friday, Mar. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
