Luke Yaklich announced on Monday, April 18, that Cameron Fens and Steven Clay have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Flames for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

"UIC and the men's basketball program are excited to officially welcome Steven to the UIC basketball family," said Yaklich. "Steven is a driven and focused student-athlete. He scored over 1,600 points for Menomonee Falls High School and set the school record for made 3-point field goals in his career. Steven is a versatile guard that will be able to play and defend multiple positions in the Missouri Valley Conference."

A three-star recruit according to 247Sports and the sixth-best player in the state of Wisconsin, Clay led Menomonee Falls to a 25-4 record and an appearance in the WIAA Division 1 State semifinals this past season after averaging 19.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. Clay, who averaged over 12.5 points per game every season and finished his career with an 18.1 point per game average, capped his high school career with 1,646 career points.

The guard also excelled on the glass, hauling in at least 6.2 rebounds per game every season and ending his high school career with 646 career rebounds.

When not competing for his high school team, Clay competed in the EYBL for Phenom University. Clay's mother, Rita, also played collegiate basketball. Clay will be pursuing a degree in business at UIC.

Cam is a dedicated student-athlete that has worked very hard on and off the court over the course of the last four years. He has a passion for the game of basketball and is driven to be an impact player in the Missouri Valley Conference. He will provide the Flames a physical inside presence and we expect him to have an impact on both ends of the floor."

The 6-foot-10 Fens excelled as a senior, averaging a double-double on the year with 18.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game en route to an appearance in the Iowa Class 4A Substate finals. On the year, Fens brought in 272 total rebounds, to break the previous school record for rebounds in a season (263). Fens also dominated on the defensive end, leading the team with 59 blocks on the season.

Fens nearly doubled his performance on the court from his junior to senior years after averaging 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 24 total blocks during the 2020-21 campaign. In both years, Fens was extremely efficient on the floor with a 63% field goal percentage.

Fens, pursuing a degree in business, was also a member of the Martin Brothers AAU program. His father, Randy, played collegiate basketball at Northern Illinois University.
