CHICAGO -- Redshirt freshman Breck Nowik has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, the League office announced Tuesday (May 10). The honor is the first of Nowik's career.

Nowik had a stellar week at the plate, helping the Flames to wins over Northwestern, Northern Kentucky and Purdue Fort Wayne. Nowik slashed .611/.650/833, all tops on the team. The first baseman finished the five-game week 11-for-17 at the plate with one double, one home run and a team-leading seven RBI and 15 total bases. Nowik also drew a pair of walks while not striking out at all.

Nowik opened the week with a 2-for-4 effort in UIC's 13-0 shutout over Big Ten foe Northwestern, recording an RBI double in the contest. The Lake Forest, Illinois native highlighted UIC's 11-7 win over Northern Kentucky with a three-run home run in the seventh to pull the Flames even at 6-all. In the Flames' doubleheader against Purdue Fort Wayne, Nowik went a combined 7-for-8 at the plate in the two games with a pair of RBI.

Nowik currently ranks sixth in the Horizon League in batting average (.326) and third in Horizon League only games (.373). In league only games, Nowik is third in doubles with nine and in the top-10 in slugging percentage, OBP, OPS and runs scored.
