YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – UIC and Youngstown State met up Friday afternoon in Game 2 of the final series of the regular season. Five Flames recorded an RBI but it wasn't enough as the Penguins took the contest by a 10-6 margin.
Â
Cole Conn and
Bobby Grimes each recorded a pair of bits while UIC combined to draw 10 walks, one shy of matching the team's season high.
Â
UIC overcame a two-run first by the Penguins to score three in the second and take an early lead. With runners on second and third and nobody out,
Rayth Petersen singled to right, allowing
Breck Nowik to score from third.
Sean Dee drew a walk to load the bases before
Adam Weed drove home Nagelbach on an RBI groundout to even the score at 2-all. Petersen gave the Flames the lead when he raced home to score on a wild pitch.
Â
The Penguins would tie things up at 3-all with a run in the home half of the second and used a 2-run fifth and 5-run sixth to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Between the third and seventh innings, the Flames got at least one runner in scoring position in all but one inning, but were never able to capitalize.
Â
UIC finally broke through with a 3-run eighth to trim the deficit to four. The Flames loaded the bases with nobody out and took advantage of back-to-back walks to score a pair of runs before
Breck Nowik lifted a sac fly to center to drive home the final run of the afternoon.
Â
The Flames and Penguins will close out the regular season Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. (CT).
