CHICAGO – UIC's
Ryan Nagelbach has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, the League office announced Monday (May 23). The honor, the first of Nagelbach's career, comes following a huge week at the plate in the final weekend in the regular season.
Â
In UIC's three-game series at Youngstown State, Nagelbach led the team in batting average (.438) and slugging percentage (1.125) while getting on base at a .471 clip. Nagelbach provided nearly half of the RBI in the Flames' 18-6 victory in Sunday's series finale as the sophomore finished with a game-high six RBI. The native of Deerfield, Illinois blasted a two-run shot to right center in the sixth to put the Flames up 13-2 before adding a grand slam in the seventh to extend the lead to 17-5.
Â
Nagelbach, who led the team this past weekend in hits (7), doubles (2), home runs (3) and RBI (9), had at least one hit in all three games.
Â
UIC earned the No. 3 seed in this week's Horizon League Championship and will begin its march to a tournament title on Wednesday afternoon, taking on sixth-seeded Northern Kentucky in an elimination game.
