CHICAGO – It was announced on Monday, June 27, that former UIC assistant coach
Dee Brown has been named the head men's basketball coach at Roosevelt University.
Â
"On behalf of our players and staff, we are so excited for Coach Brown to begin his new journey and the next step in his career as head coach at Roosevelt University," said head coach
Luke Yaklich. "We thank Coach Brown for five years of service to UIC in the men's basketball program."
Â
Brown earns his first head coaching position after spending the last five seasons on the bench for the Flames. During his tenure with the Flames, Brown helped coach Tarkus Ferguson (2018-19 & 2019-20) and Damaria Frankin (2021-22) to All-Horizon League Honors in addition to guiding
Jace Carter to All-Newcomer accolades this past season. Under Brown's leadership, Marcus Ottey was named to the All-Defensive Team in 2019-20 and Tai Odiase picked up his second consecutive Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year in 2017-18.
Â
"I cannot thank Dee enough for his loyalty, dedication, & passion on and off the court. He helped each player grow as a student, athlete, and young man during his tenure at UIC," added Yaklich. "He's going to be a terrific head coach and we're very excited to watch him build the Roosevelt men's basketball program here in the city that he loves dearly."
Â
As a local prep standout at Proviso East High School, Brown was named Mr. Basketball in Illinois and a McDonald's All-American in 2002.
Â
Located less than two miles from UIC's campus, Roosevelt University is an NAIA institution competing in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Lakers finished this past season with a 19-12 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the CCAC Tournament.
