Breck Nowik was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, the organization announced Wednesday (June 8). Nowik becomes the ninth player in UIC history, and second in as many seasons, to earn freshman All-America Honors.

A 2022 Horizon League All-Leauge Second Team and All-Freshman Team honoree, Nowik was the only player from the Horizon League to be named to the list. The redshirt freshman ranked fourth in the League, and tops among freshmen, among qualified hitters in batting average this past season, while his .384 batting average in Horizon League games was the highest of any League player.

Dating back to 2003, Nowik becomes the ninth player to garner freshman All-America accolades, joining
Cole Conn (2021), Ryan Hampe (2019),
Alex Dee (2016), Nathan Orf (2009), Steve McGuiggan (2008), Mark Hallberg (2005), Ryan Zink (2004) and Ryan Martin (2003). The native of Lake Forest, Illinois, becomes the first UIC first baseman to earn the distinction.

Nowik, who appeared and started in 46 of UIC's 47 games this season led the team in batting average (.335), home runs (9), and tied for the team lead with 42 RBI. The redshirt freshman's .581 slugging percentage was tops on the team while his .421 on base percentage and 14 doubles ranked second. Throughout the season, Nowik tied the team's season long hitting streak at 14 games while ending the season on an active 22-game on base streak. The first baseman had 10 multi-RBI games, most on the team.
