CHICAGO – UIC Athletics is resuming its Athletics Hall of Fame after a two-year hiatus during which many in-person events were impacted by the pandemic. The Flames have also formalized the process to honor jerseys across all sports.

ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
The most recent Hall of Fame class was inducted in Spring 2019, the year before the onset of the pandemic.  The next UIC Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony will be held in Fall 2023. Nominations will be accepted through October 1, 2022, through a standard Hall of Fame Nomination Form on UICFlames.com.

The UIC Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1990 to recognize the outstanding individuals and teams who have made exceptional contributions to the Flames as student-athletes, coaches and administrators. Any student-athlete, coach, administrator, or special contributors is eligible for consideration. Former student-athlete nominees are eligible if they completed their athletic eligibility five or more years ago and they earned a UIC degree or left the institution in good academic standing.

HONORING JERSEYS
UIC Athletics has further recognized a select few all-time greats by retiring their jerseys in its athletics venues. Click here for a complete list of retired jerseys.

The Flames' new Retired & Honored Jersey Policy formalizes the process to receive this special honor for student-athletes and coaches who have achieved extraordinary athletic accomplishments during their careers with the Flames. All numbers retired prior to 2022 will remain retired, absent the approval of the honoree (or family) for a current student-athlete wear their number. Moving forward, jerseys may be retired or honored, with the latter recognition enabling the number to remain in circulation.

As with the UIC Athletics Hall of Fame, nominations for honored and retired jerseys shall be accepted through a standard Retired & Honored Jersey Nomination Form available on UICFlames.com.

ABOUT UIC FLAMES ATHLETICS
UIC Athletics has been an NCAA Division I member since 1981, and in July, became the 12^th member of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Flames 300 student-athletes compete across 18 sports and have won 75 conference championships, made 47 NCAA tournament appearances, and claimed 82 Conference Player of the Year Awards, 55 Coach of the Year honors, and 20 All-America recognitions. In the classroom, UIC student-athletes have achieved a department-wide GPA above 3.0 for 15-consecutive semesters and boast a 91% Graduation Success Rate.
