Head coach
Shannon Tully unveiled a four-member class of incoming student-athletes for the 2022-23 tennis season.
The group consists of three transfer students with Division I experience and one true freshman. Natalia Nikolopoulou (Athens, Greece), Zara Ryan (Dublin, Ireland), and Cora-Lynn von Dungern (Mannheim, Germany) each have multiple years of college tennis under their belts. They will be joined by Paula Rodriguez Gregoris (Canary Islands, Spain), who will be the Flames' lone freshman.
"I am incredibly excited about this 2022-23 recruiting class," Tully said. "Signing three standout transfers and one talented freshman will give us so much experience and depth."
Rodriguez Gregoris climbed as high as 70
th in the Spanish women's open rankings. "Paula is a very dedicated and determined player, and her game will grow quickly as she settles into the college schedule of competition," said Tully.
Nikolopoulou enters UIC as a graduate student after playing three seasons at James Madison and earning All-CAA honors. She compiled an overall singles record of 30-30 and a doubles mark of 36-20. She was the Dukes' #1 singles player last year, and was named CAA Player of the Week once. "Natalia has competed at the top of her lineup at JMU over the past three years, and the confidence and composure she shows on court will be highly impactful.," Tully said.
von Dungern is also a graduate transfer who played two years at Northern Arizona followed by three years at Western Kentucky. She was the Hilltoppers' #1 singles and doubles player throughout her career there, and left as the school's career doubles wins leader with 37. She also finished in the top 10 in career singles wins.  "Cora-Lynn has anchored the #1 singles and doubles spots at WKU and has a lot of variety in her game," Tully observed. "She has a positive mindset and leadership mentality which makes her an asset."
Ryan is a senior transfer with two years of eligibility remaining. She played three seasons at Utah State, earning All-Mountain West singles honors and Academic All-Mountain West recognition. "Zara is a very athletic player who has competed on a high level at Utah State. She has such an upside here at UIC, as I know she has a lot more she wants to accomplish," Tully stated.
The quartet of newcomers will join four returning players on campus this fall. The Flames' 2022-23 schedule will be released at a later date.
