The flow of UIC's second exhibition match – down to the final score – was eerily similar to that of their first. In their second straight 1-0 setback, the Flames controlled most of the possession and had significant advantages in shots and shots on goal. But before a good-sized crowd of supporters, they could not get one in the net in the first match on the new Flames Field.
As in Monday's match, an early goal stood up. Southern Indiana scored in the eighth minute on what would remain their only shot of the first half. UIC applied continuous pressure on the Screaming Eagles' end, with a low, hot shot being nicely saved and a header off a corner kick just skimming over the crossbar late in the half.
The Flames continued to connect, advance, and shoot during the second half. Their best chance to score came when
Makena Shaw got behind the out-of-position keeper and put a shot on the open net, but struck it just softly enough to allow a defender to reach the line before it scored.
The Flames will wrap their exhibition schedule on Friday against Central Michigan. The match will start at 1 p.m. Admission to Flames Field will be free of charge.
