CHICAGO – Entering her first season at the helm, UIC head women's basketball coach
Ashleen Bracey announced on Monday, Aug. 15, the non-conference schedule for the Flames' upcoming season.
"Our women's basketball program is working very hard during the offseason, and we are striving to build a culture that our fans will be very proud of," said Bracey. "As we enter the Missouri Valley Conference with nine returners and six newcomers we will continue to work hard, lay a foundation and instill a championship mentality."
The inaugural schedule for Bracey's first year on the bench features four regular season home games, including a pair of marquee contests against Loyola and Northwestern at Credit Union 1 Arena. The team will also make a trip to take on American Athletic Conference foe Cincinnati in addition to competing in a tournament in Savannah, Georgia, the week of Thanksgiving.
The season starts with a pair of home exhibitions, as the Flames play host to Benedictine (Oct. 27) and Wheaton (Nov. 2). Bracey will make her regular season debut as a head coach on the road on Nov. 7 as UIC heads to Indianapolis to take on IUPUI. UIC makes its home debut on Wednesday, Nov. 16, as the Flames welcome Milwaukee to town before heading back on the road. The team heads to Savannah, Georgia, for a tournament Nov. 21-23. The Flames open play in the neutral site event against Farleigh-Dickinson before rounding out competition against Davidson and Austin Peay.
Action resumes back at Credit Union 1 Arena with a pair of home games. UIC first takes on St. Thomas on Nov. 27 before a city bragging rights contest against Loyola on Dec. 1. The Flames head to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats on Dec. 4 before returning to the comforts of home for a Big Ten battle against Northwestern on Dec. 14.
The non-conference schedule closes on Tuesday, Dec. 20 as the team heads to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to take on Southeast Missouri State.
