UPDATE: Due to forecasted weather, the match has been moved up to an 11 a.m. Central start.
UIC will open a three-week span that will see them play four out of five matches on the road, when they visit Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
The Flames built up considerable momentum with consecutive draws against Eastern Illinois and Marquette, but slipped up against Miami (Ohio) in a 3-0 loss. UIC managed only five shots on goal against the RedHawks, marking their lowest since the season opener at Louisville. But with a full week of analysis and training under their belt, they will visit EKU with a fresh sense of purpose.
Freshman
Hannah Gryzik leads the team in shots and shots on goal. Her continued offensive contributions, alongside veterans
Jelena Zbiljic and
Megan Bowman, will be important in UIC's quest for more consistent goal-scoring. Defensively, the question of a full-time goalkeeper has yet to be settled.
Lauren Keiser (three starts) leads the MVC in save percentage and goals-against average, while
Sara Sanabria (two starts) has played well and put in a 90-minute shift – the first of her career – against Miami.
The Colonels enter on a two-match winning streak. They posted one-goal wins over Wright State and Detroit Mercy to improve to 3-2 on the season. Myla Sharpless leads the team with two goals and five points. Despite their winning record, EKU has been outscored 8-6 on the year, with their opponents putting over 48% of their shot attempts on goal. UIC will look to take quality shots, as their shot on goal percentage is right at the 48% mark for the season.
This is the first meeting between the programs. UIC will be hunting their third win all-time in the state of Kentucky. The match will start at 11 a.m. Central, and can be seen on ESPN+.
