Homestand Ends With Visit From Bradley

Flames Seek First MVC Win Saturday

9/23/2022 1:56:00 PM

UIC will look to end a two-match losing streak, and post its first Valley win, against Bradley at Flames Field on Saturday night.

The Flames have suffered a pair of one-goal losses on their current homestand.  On Tuesday, DePaul scored three to outpace the goals by Brian Perez and Andres Lemus.  Despite a 22-11 advantage in shots, and an 11-5 edge in shots on goal, UIC could not get a second-half equalizer.  The Flames are outshooting their opponents by over two shots per game, and are putting 43% of their tries on goal, but Sean Phillips has said that the quality of the shots on goal needs to improve, and opposing keepers need to be challenged more.

Perez' goal against the Blue Demons was his second of the season, making him the first Flame to score multiple goals.  Christian Crespo notched his second assist of the year, tying him for the team lead in that category.  Pau Mateo and Josh Torres are the top two Flames in shots, and each has a goal and an assist to his credit.

Bradley enters having also lost its Valley opener, and is 2-4-1 on the season.  A trio of Braves are co-leaders with two goals each.  Defense in the box has been an issue for Bradley.  They have surrendered 40 corner kicks and two penalty kicks.
UIC has won the last four meetings against their downstate rivals, dating back to 2006.
The match can be seen on ESPN3.
