Flames Sweep Bradley in MVC Road Debut

Paola Santiago with a match-high 13 kills as Flames top Braves

PEORIA, Ill. – The UIC volleyball team swept Bradley, 3-0, in the program's first MVC road contest of the season Friday evening in Peoria.

Paola Santiago led the way with a match-high 13 kills while Martina Delucchi added 12. Becca Oldendorf was incredibly effective in the match, recording nine kills on 12 attempts while recording no errors (.750 hitting percentage).

The Flames methodically built a 14-7 lead in the opening set and never looked back, cruising to a 25-19 victory. It was more of the same for UIC in the second set as the Flames never trailed in the second frame. UIC's defense was on point in the second set, holding Bradley to a .108 hitting percentage with just 11 kills paired with seven errors.

A different Bradley team took the court in the third set and took the Flames to the wire and then some, forcing the set into extra points.

A 3-0 Bradley run put the Braves in front, 14-11, the largest deficit the Flames had seen all night. UIC would chase the deficit down to the end, using a 3-0 run to pull even at 23-all. Tied at 25, Oldendorf and Delucchi recorded back-to-back kills to seal the 27-25 victory and sweep for the Flames.

UIC remains in-state to take on Illinois State on Sunday, October 2. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
