CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA– The UIC women's basketball team (11-8, 3-5 MVC) finished its road trip through Iowa in defeat Saturday afternoon, losing to UNI (12-5, 7-1 MVC), 79-44 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Flames were led offensively by
Ky Dempsey-Toney coming off the bench. She netted 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Danyel Middleton also scored 10 points and had three rebounds

COACHES COMMENT- "I think each time we come back to practice we get back to what kind of got us here, which is hard work and grind mode and defense," Flames head coach
Ashleen Bracey said about how they are going to respond after this road trip through Iowa. "It's a challenging feat to go on the road to play Drake and Northern Iowa, it's tough. We aren't going to hang our heads; we got a big week ahead of us and we just get back to work."
FIRST HALF
- UIC held close in the opening minutes of the game, but UNI responded going on a 11-4 run towards the end of the first quarter.
- UIC then went into an offensive drought beginning in the second quarter. They did not score until five minutes left in the half.
- UNI outscored UIC 23-8 to end the quarter to lead at halftime, 39-18. The Flames finished the half going 6-for-21, shooting 28% from the field.
SECOND HALF
- The Flames strongest quarter came in the third quarter, when the team scored 16 points.
- Middleton ended the third with a last second lay-up to enter double figures. This is the sixth time this season Middleton has scored in double figures.
- Dempsey-Toney's best quarter came in the fourth quarter, when she scored six of her 15 points.
- Midway through the game the last member of the team made their season debut. Dylan Van Fleet played five minutes to end the third quarter and recorded one steal.
The Flames will return home to Credit Union 1 Arena Friday, Jan. 27 to host Bradley (3-15, 0-7 MVC). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
