CHICAGO– The UIC women's basketball team (12-8, 4-5 MVC) finishes off their weekend homestand taking on Illinois State (14-5, 8-1 MVC) early Sunday evening.
MATCHUP BREAKDOWN
- The Flames and the Redbirds will meet for the 22nd time on the hardwood and the first time in over six years. Illinois State leads the series, 18-3.
- This will be the first time UIC head coach Ashleen Bracey will be facing off against her alma mater. She played her collegiate career for the Redbirds from 2006 to 2010.
- The Redbirds have been on a roll, winning their last seven games in a row. Their lone loss in the Missouri Valley Conference was back on New Year's Day from UNI, 74-64.
- Illinois State is led offensively by Paige Robinson. She is the second leading scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference, averaging 18.9 PPG.
BEATING OUT THE BRAVES
- The Flames began their homestand victorious with a 52-38 win over Bradley Friday night.
- The Flames were led offensively by Jaida McCloud, who scored 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. 13 of her 20 points came in the second half.
- The Flames played their best defense in the first half all season. UIC held Bradley to nine points in the first half, and two points in the second quarter.
- The Flames now are tied for sixth in the MVC.
HOME SWEET HOME
- The Flames best play has taken place at home this season, sporting a 7-2 record at Credit Union 1 Arena.
- The Flames have won the last four home games in a row, last losing to Indiana State back on Jan. 5.
- Five of those seven wins were by five points or less for the Flames, including Josie Filer's buzzer beating three-pointer against Valparaiso back on Jan. 11, 52-51.
WELCOME BACK FORMER FLAMES
- Former members of UIC women's basketball will be in attendance for their annual Alumni Day.
- 60 alumni are scheduled to be in attendance where they will enjoy food before and after the game and getting to speak with the current members of the team.
- A halftime ceremony is scheduled to take place to celebrate the alumni and their efforts during their time at UIC.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
