Offensive Outburst Propels Men's Soccer to Convincing Victory

Flames Topple Aces in Dominant Fashion Saturday Night

CHICAGO (Oct. 14, 2023) – The UIC men's soccer team (8-3-2, 3-1-1 MVC) returned home to Flames Field Saturday, as it played host to Evansville (3-7-3, 1-3-1 MVC) on a cool fall night in Chicago. The Flames opened the first half with a flurry of goals, tallying four in the first half to take control of the match. The Flames went on to earn a 5-1 victory, equaling their largest margin of victory this season.

FIRST HALF
  • Oskar Greven (Cologne, Germany) got the scoring started in the 13th minute, as his second goal of the season gave the Flames a 1-0 lead.

  • Leading goal-scorer Bart Muns (Amsterdam, Netherlands) added to his tally in the 31st minute, pocketing his sixth of the season to double the UIC advantage.

  • Junior Joshua Torres (Chicago, Ill.) returned to the score sheet just six minutes later, notching his fifth of the year to give the Flames a commanding 3-0 lead.

  • Two minutes prior to the halftime whistle, Juan Gutierrez (Waukegan, Ill.) tallied his first goal of the year to run the lead to 4-0 over the Aces.

  • The four goals the Flames scored in the first half were the most in a single half since a six-goal onslaught against Bradley on Oct. 23, 2022 in a 6-2 win.

SECOND HALF
  • Despite the large advantage, the Flames stayed on the front foot in the second half, outshooting the Aces 9-8 in the final 45 minutes.
  • After an Evansville goal in the 62nd minute, Preston Huitron (Aurora, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season to re-establish the momentum, giving UIC a 5-1 lead that it would hold until the final whistle.
