BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (Oct. 17, 2023) - The UIC women's golf team finished off its fall schedule with strong performances from
Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic Menlo College) and
Brooke Beyer (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge), as the graduate student and senior finished tied for second and tied for fifth respectively at the Chippewa Invitational, held at the Birmingham Country Club. The Flames shot a team score of +35 (611) to finish third in the team standings, their fourth top-three finish in five events this fall.
CHIPPEWA INVITATIONAL RECAP
- Competing in a 36-hole event for the first time this fall, the Flames shot a team score of 312 on Day One and a 299 on Day Two to secure the third place finish.
- Urbankova continued her stellar fall campaign, finishing tied for second place in the individual standings after shooting a 73 and 75 to finish the event +4 (148).
- After finishing tied for 19th at last week's Loyola Parkinson Invitational, Beyer produced her best performance of the fall, concluding the event at +6 (150) en route to her first top-five finish of the season.
- Grace Szklarek (Granger, Ind./Penn) hit a +12(156) over the 36-hole event to finish tied for 18th in the individual standings. Chaewon Jeong (Seoul, South Korea/Laurel Springs School) finished one stroke behind Szklarek to tie for 20th.
- Megan Tang (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's (Tenn.) tied for 30th in the individual standings after shooting +16 (160).
- Golfing as individuals Lia Thomas (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) finished tied-38th with a +20 (164) while Ellie McDonald (ndianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) shot +24 (168) to tie for 45th in the individual standings.
- UIC's team score of 611 was only nine strokes behind team champion Youngstown State.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Urbankova has finished in the top-two in the individual standings in four of her five competitions this fall. This is the second week in a row she's tied for second-place in the individual standings.
- Urbankova's 36-hole score of 148 (+4) is tied for the sixth-lowest score in UIC history, while Beyer's cumulative score of 150 (+6) is tied for the eighth-lowest score in program history.
- Beyer's second round score of 71 is her second-lowest round of the fall season. The senior shot a 70 during Round 2 of the Butler Fall Invitational. However, Tuesday's round (-1) was Beyer's first round under par this season. The round ties the program record for the fourth-lowest round in program history and the fourth-lowest round versus par in school history.
- The Chippewa Invitational was Szklarek's best finish of the fall season, and her first top-25 finish of the year.
- Jeong finished in the top 20 for the second week in a row, after tying for 19th at last week's Loyola Parkinson Invitational. The sophomore has shot below 80 in every round since Round 2 of the Brittany Kelly Classic on Sept. 18.
- Tuesday's team score of 299 is tied for the 10th-lowest team score in program history.
- The Flames' 36-hole team total of 611 is tied for the fifth-lowest team total in school history.
- This Chippewa Invitational is the fourth event this fall the Flames have finished in third place or better. UIC placed third at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational, second at the Butler Fall Invitational and second at the Brittany Kelly Classic.

- The Chippewa Invitational is the final of five events the Flames will compete at this fall.
- UIC also participated at the Brittany Kelly Classic in Muncie, Ind., the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colo. the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis and the Loyola Parkinson Invitational in Libertyville, Ill.
