CHICAGO (Oct. 19, 2023) – The UIC swimming and diving programs have a busy weekend in store, with the women's team competing in multiple meets over the weekend and the men's team competing in a meet Friday.
Both programs will head to Terre Haute, Ind. Friday for competition at the Vigo County Aquatics Center. The women's team will compete in a quad-meet against Indiana State, Evansville and Southern Indiana. The men's team will face off against Southern Indiana. Both competitions start at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, the women's team returns home to host Missouri Valley Conference foe Illinois State at the Flames Natatorium at 1 p.m.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN INDIANA
- This will be the first time UIC is set to compete against Southern Indiana in both men's and women's swimming & diving.
- In its inaugural season in the Summit League in 2022-23, both the Screaming Eagles' men's and women's programs finished in eighth place at the Summit League Championships.
- Southern Indiana split its tri-meet versus Valparaiso and Evansville last weekend, with both the men's and women's programs earning wins against the Beacons.
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
- This will be the third time UIC's women team has competed against Indiana State, with the overall series tied at 1-1.
- The Sycamores edged the Flames in their last meeting (178.50-121.50) in Oct. 2018. Lexie Joy won in the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Cydney Liebenberg won in both the three-meter (281.02 points) and one-meter (264.23 points) diving events.
- The Sycamores finished the 2022-23 season as the runner-up at the 2023 MVC Swimming and Diving Championships. Indiana State has wins this season against Milwaukee (225.5-74.5) and Green Bay (239-61).
SCOUTING EVANSVILLE
- This will be the second time the Flames and the Purple Aces will be competing in the pool. UIC came out victorious against Evansville on Jan. 16, winning 190-102.
- Senior Taira Juronis (Palos Hills, Ill./ Amos Alonzo Stagg) finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke and sophomore Madison Hemlick (Bingham Farms, Mich./Birmingham Groves) placed second in the 500-meter freestyle. Junior Ciara McCliment (Farmington Hill, MI/Mercy) won the three-meter diving event with a score of 257.10.
- Evansville is heading in to the meet with team wins at home against Southern Indiana (126-110) and Valparaiso (157-70).

SCOUTING ILLINOIS STATE
- This will be the first match-up between UIC and Illinois State since Jan. 2005. The Redbirds lead the overall series with a 4-0 advantage.
- In their last meeting, UIC's Jessica Darud won in both the 100 and 200 backstroke races. Colleen Dougherty won the 50 and 100 freestyle competitions. The Flames ultimately fell short against Illinois State in the meet (187-112).
- Illinois State has two wins in dual meets in the season with wins against Eastern Illinois (188-86) and Ohio (137.5-122.5).

LOOKING BACK TO LAST WEEKEND
- In the season opener for the Flames, the women's team were victorious against Butler (169-86) while the men fell short against Ball State (187-113).
- Junior Cole Tremewan (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Sophomore Harrison Nolan (Riverside, Ill./Kentucky) each recorded qualifying marks and will have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in March.
- Tremewan won the one-meter diving competition with 333.08 points, while Nolan placed second with 329.10 points. Nolan won the three-meter diving competition for the Flames with a score of 361.13 points while Tremewan finished second in the event with 344.45 points.
- Hemlick had three individual victories—100 freestyle (53.18), 200 freestyle (1:54.53) and 500 freestyle (5:12.07).
- Juronis won the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.75. Sophomore Izabella Drake (South Elgin, Ill./ St. Charles North) won the 100 backstroke in 58.65 seconds.
- Liam Davis (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) earned the first individual men's win in the 200 freestyle (1:43.57).
- Freshman James McCarthy (Minnetonka, Minn./DeLaSalle) earned his first collegiate individual win in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:04.89. He later placed second in the 200 backstroke in 1:55.11.
