ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Oct. 22, 2023) – Highlighted by a singles win in the main draw by Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) and first round victories by the doubles pairs of Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) and Bottino and Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) and Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast), the UIC men's tennis program concluded play at the 2023 ITA Midwest Regional Sunday with a total of six wins in competition.

"It was a great opportunity for our six student-athletes to get to compete at one of the best regions in the country and face some of the top tennis players in the Midwest. Our guys competed hard and look forward to getting back to work to prepare for the MAC Indoors in early November.
 
ITA MIDWEST REGIONAL RECAP

• Along with Bottino, Bucan, Schwebel and Wilson, Elliott Dam (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) and Artem Iermolov (Las Vegas, Nev./Clark) competed for the Flames at the regional. 
• In the doubles competition, two of UIC's three pairs competing advanced to the Round of 32. UIC's team of Bottino and Schwebel won a thrilling opening round match against a pair from Notre Dame, defeating them 9-8 (7-3). The pair of Bucan and Wilson handily defeated their opponents from Cleveland State before bowing out in the second round.
• With three Flames competing in the singles qualifying tournament, Schwebel was the sole UIC competitor to advance to the Round of 32 after defeating his opponent from Cleveland State in the opening round. The senior did not advance to the main draw.
• In the main draw singles tournament, Bottino was the lone Flame to reach the second round after the senior defeated Michigan's Patorn Hanchaikul in an exciting three-set match.
• Competing in Sunday's consolation matches, Bottino and Bucan both came away victorious as the two Flames won their matches against opponents from Toledo and Illinois respectively.
