Women's Basketball Set for Two-Game Homestand

Flames play SEMO on Friday and IUPUI on Sunday at Credit Union 1 Arena

CHICAGO (Nov. 15, 2023) – The UIC women's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 MVC) will return to the court on Friday after a couple of days off from competition. The Flames will prepare for two games within less than 48 hours, with their home opener being on Friday. The women's game on Sunday will be followed by a men's game, as the two teams will host a doubleheader.
                                                                                                                                                 
LAST TIME OUT
The Flames concluded its season-opening three game road trip Sunday,  with a hard-fought 73-70 win over Miwaukee. The victory was the Flames' second-consecutive win over the Panthers and their first road win at Milwaukee since the 2013-14 season. Senior Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) led the Flames with 16 points, playing the most minutes (29) on the team. Fellow senior Danyel Middleton (Chicago, Ill./Bolingbrook/Marquette) set a new career-high with six steals against the Panthers and added 13 points.

SCOUTING SEMO
The Redhawks (1-1) began their season with an 85-70 loss to Southern Illinois, followed by an 82-60 victory over Stephens College (Mo.). Alecia Doyle (18.0 ppg) and Jaliyah Green (16.0 ppg) lead SEMO in scoring, while the team boasts a field goal shooting percentage of .545.

In Southeast Missouri State's victory over Stephens College (Mo.), freshman guard Indiya Bowen recorded a career-high of 19 points. Bowen shot 50-percent from the field (6-12) including two-for-four from three-point range and was a perfect five-for-five from the charity stripe in her second-straight start of the season. Doyle and Amiyah Buchanan each contributed 17 points, with Green also adding 17.

SERIES HISTORY
UIC's home opener Friday will mark the eighth encounter between the Flames and the Redhawks on the court. The Flames are looking to tie the overall series record, with SEMO currently holding a 4-3 all-time advantage.

In the most recent meeting last season, UIC lost a close one-point contest in Cape Girardeau, Mo to the Redhawks. The Flames had the ball in the closing seconds but couldn't convert before the final buzzer sounded, falling 56-55. Ky Dempsey-Toney (Franklin, New Jersey/Franklin) made a significant impact off the bench, scoring 12 points and securing seven rebounds against SEMO. McCloud contributed eight points in the closely contested contest.

SCOUTING IUPUI
IUPUI (1-2) kicked off its season with a 77-72 victory over Eastern Illinois but fell to No. 7 Ohio State (108-58) and recently Marquette (92-58). Junior Katie Davidson led the Jaguars offense with 23 points, scoring 11 of her team's 15 points in the second quarter and seven of the Jags' 14 points in the third quarter against the Buckeyes. In the season opener against Eastern Illinois, Davidson had a 32-point performance.

As a combo guard/forward, Davidson is IUPUI's top scorer, averaging 21.0 points per game. She's shooting .512 from the field and .600 from the behind the arc.

SERIES HISTORY
The matchup will mark the 13th meeting between the two teams, with IUPUI leading the all-time series 11-1.  The first game between the two schools took place in 2016, with the most recent clash occurring last season. In that game, the Flames earned the 52-50 road victory over the Jaguars, which was also Ashleen Bracey's first win as UIC head coach.

McCloud stood out the historic win with a game-high 11 rebounds, five of which were on the offensive glass, in addition to scoring eight points.
