Women’s Basketball Gears up for Friday Night Game in Omaha

Flames look for their fifth win of the season against the Mavericks

CHICAGO (Nov. 30, 2023) – The UIC women's basketball team (4-2) will be back on the road Friday for a 7 p.m. (CT) matchup with Omaha (2-4) at Baxter Arena. The game will be streamed live on the Summit League Network and live stats are available through UICFlames.com.

LAST TIME OUT
The Flames suffered a narrow defeat at Saint Louis last Sunday, falling 79-75 in a closely contested battle at Chaifetz Arena. Senior guard/forward Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods), graduate student guard Dais'Ja Trotter (Louisville, Ky./Seneca/Cincinnati) and junior forward Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) each scored in double figures in the four-point loss. Trotter was UIC's leading scorer with 18 points, marking her second time leading the Flames in scoring this season.
 
McCloud's impressive performance continues to propel her up the UIC all-time scoring lists, currently sitting 15th in school history with 1,140 points.
 
UIC also forced 27 turnovers by Saint Louis, the second-highest by a Flames' opponent this season, while dishing out a season-high 23 assists.
 
SCOUTING OMAHA
Omaha is coming off an overtime victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Monday night, winning 87-79. Ten Mavericks contributed to the scoring effort, with three in double figures. Polina Nikulochkina led Omaha with 21 points, complemented by Kennedi Grant with 18 points and Grace Cave with 13. Nikulochkina went 6-of-9 on field goals, 7-of-8 on free throws, and 2-of-2 on three-pointers. Grant also contributed with eight rebounds and six assists.
 
Cave, a junior guard, has been a pivotal figure for the Mavericks, leading the team with an average of 10 points in 27 minutes per game.
 
At 2-4 this season, the Mavericks opened with a 105-59 loss to another Missouri Valley Conference member, Illinois State. Omaha also fell to Northwestern, 87-69, three days after UIC narrowly lost to Northwestern in overtime, 92-86.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Friday's game will be the third meeting between UIC and Omaha with the series record tied 1-1. The Flames and Mavericks first met in the 1973-74 season, which ended in a 75-43 victory for UIC. The last encounter was two years ago in Chicago, when the Mavericks won 70-58.
