Softball’s Saturday Cut Short Due to Rain at Buzz Classic

UIC falls to Saint Francis, game against UConn postponed due to rain

ATLANTA - The UIC Softball team (0-3) managed to get one of its two games in at the Buzz Classic before the rain came in, falling to Saint Francis 5-1 Saturday morning.

Game 1 vs. Saint Francis
  • Saint Francis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring runs in the first and second inning. 
  • The Flames were held hitless until the bottom of the third when senior Alannah Cran smacked a single up the middle. UIC finished the day with four hits. 
  • UIC pitcher Miranda Gomez pitched the entire game, allowing two runs, two walks and striking out two.
  • The Red Flash extended their lead over the Flames to 4-0 in the fourth and 5-0 in the sixth on UIC fielding errors. 
  • The Flames' lone run was scored in the bottom of the seventh when Altevers-Harris drove in Anna Walker on a single.
Game 2 vs. UConn
  • UIC was set to compete against UConn in the afternoon, but the game was canceled due to rain. It has not yet been determined yet if the game will be rescheduled the game for Sunday.
Sunday's Contest
  • If weather permits, the Flames are scheduled to compete at the Buzz Classic Sunday against Georgia Tech (1-1). First-pitch is at 10:30 a.m. CST. Fans can watch the action on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX).
